As Yank Barry traveled the world selling dehydrated soy-based products for his own company, Vitapro, in the 1990s, what he saw troubled him deeply and caused him to reconsider the direction of his life. The level of suffering he saw bothered him and made him decide that philanthropy was the way to go. For example, he, along with philanthropic partners like Michael Jordan and Evander Holyfield, established an international hunger initiative called the Global Village Champions Foundation in 1995. That foundation has so far doled out more than a billion meals in their effort to fight hunger.

Yank Barry does a lot of other work, as well, and he does a lot of it himself. His efforts have led him to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times, but he has also received numerous awards and accolades from all over the world. His work has also been profiled on CNN, NBC, The Jerusalem Post and many other news outlets throughout the world. That is the kind of attention that brings help to forgotten people the world over.
